When Dreams are Dashed

Many years ago, I never thought I would become an author. Sure, I love to write, but my writings were for me as an escape. I write as I want and not what others want, but I had no idea I would be called to write. I started dreaming. I have always wanted to have Bethany House or other well known publishers to publish my work, but those dreams crumbled because I  was unknown. Most publishers only accept submissions from well known authors like Michael Hyatt or Ted Dekker.  And when I found a publisher I found out too late they were scam. I had to pay a high price to get my rights back. When you sign a contract, you give them your rights. They hire and editor and a cover designer, formatter, etc to do all the work. You don't have to pay a dime. The only downfall is you won't get much royalty either (Well that's my experience Im sure publishers are fair) After I had Marge published, I rewrote it. I was on my own and still knew very little. I hired a copy editor who to edit Ma...

The Struggle is Real

If you were to ask me years ago, "Do you enjoy writing?" I would say yes. Mainly because I never heard of all things I've learned over the past two years. I just wrote. The word "Storytelling" shouldn't even be associated with authors. They should be called "Story show-ers." Readers despise who tell their stories because they want to feel what the  character  is feeling. They don't want to be told  "Ed is angry." they want, "Ed's Nostril flared as he clinched his fist. I am not a story shower. I just write. Although I am  learning and practicing, I still feel inadequate for such a task. Shoing is so foreign to me that I even curse readers. But wait! Am I reader too, right? Writing as a professional is a struggle for me. I stare at the page and my mind draws a blank. Why cant people be happy with this? The story? A Second Chance at Love. I have put off Baby Blues because frankly I have no desire to finish it. The hurt  membe...

Taking A Break and Why.

I have debated whether I should share this in my writing post, but it is mostly about me. Ugh. About me.  Recently I had a dream which made me do some thinking: Maybe I had made it all about me and not all about God. I give him all the glory for what He has done in 2013, but the year could have been better for me. I could have sold many books instead of writing 3 books which no one wants to buy or download.  I don't want a repeat performance this year and therefore I did some praying and thinking. "Who am I writing for me and why do I write?" The hardest part in the whole year is watching other people  post about how their books are doing  while mine isn't doing anything. I began to question my gift as my boyfriend puts it. Or what is it doubting it? I try not to get discourage and let em get down. It's not that I think I am a terrible author, but that others thinks I am. Well, maybe not. They don't like romance or they do think I stink. (Laughs). I had a fe...

The Storms of my Life

Image
Last night, I went to church and listened to a sermon that my pastor preached on about storms. I can relate to the sermon because the storms in my life comes from "friendly" authors who thinks they can help me write (or should I say..."rewrite"?) my book. I never said I was perfect, but I also never expected to have people tell me, "Your story would be better if.." So I listen to their advice and suggestions as my heart break.  My pastor preached that storms comes unexpectedly and that no one ever hopes or wants a storm to come. Often time, we don't know how to deal with storms. The disciples figured all they could do is empty the boat of the water. Jesus was asleep.   How dare he sleep! Doesn't he know we are going to drown if he doesn't do something?  I am sure the disciples thought that, but what they didn't expect was how Jesus would answer the storm. They thought he would bail out some water too. to join in with them. Ofte...

Being Tired and Writing

Ever since I found out the reason for everything I have suffered physically, I have been keeping a journal. You see I was diagnosed with a  fibroid tumor last month and one symptom that I suffer from is Anemia. So I will share with you what I wrote for my prayer group. Being Tired Having Anemia is the pits. That is how mildly I can put it.  It is also a struggle. However, it is not what else makes me tired and I think it is a symptom of Anemia: Insomnia. I have suffered with Insomnia for a long time, but I thought it was due to stress. After all, my father caused stress in the family, especially during his illness before his death. At that time, I was still thinking I would like to have the bulge removed. I haven’t found out I have a tumor in my uterus.  I can remember those nightmarish nights when I just couldn’t get to sleep yet I was too tired to do anything! Recently. I did research on Anemia. I found out that it is a disability because it hindered peop...
